GPT-5.6 Sol now powers ChatGPT's reasoning choices on paid plans, while Terra serves lower-cost Work, Codex and API routes and Luna is the fastest option in the GPT-5.6 family and the default for Free and Go users.
What changed
OpenAI rolled out GPT-5.6 Sol and Sol Pro for complex professional work. Sol now powers Instant, Medium, High and Extra High on eligible paid plans, Sol Pro is the Pro option in the family, and Terra and Luna can be selected in supported Work, Codex and API workflows rather than from the standard Chat model picker. Since then OpenAI has added GPT-6 Pro, powered by GPT-6 Astra, as a second Pro choice on the Pro $100, Pro $200, Business and Enterprise plans, and given Free and Go users GPT-5.6 Luna as their default, unlimited everyday text chats and a Think button for harder questions.
