Microsoft is selling the control plane for everyone else's agents.

Agent 365's July update adds partner risk signals in one security view, oversight of usage-based AI spend, org-wide adoption insights, agent discovery across ecosystem platforms and centralised multi-tenant management.

Bit, the Human Bit guide

Bit’s takeaway

What not to assumeDo not assume a control plane governs agents it cannot see; shadow agents and personal accounts sit outside any dashboard until someone brings them in.

What changed

Microsoft's July 2026 Agent 365 update brings partner risk signals into a unified security view, improves oversight of usage-based AI spend, delivers organisation-wide adoption insights, extends agent discovery and governance across ecosystem platforms, and enables centralised management across multiple tenants. Together these position Agent 365 as an enterprise control plane for observing, governing and securing agents at scale.

Why it matters

Agents are multiplying faster than anyone is inventorying them, and the vendors know it: the product being sold is no longer the agent but the ability to see and stop agents. A control plane only governs what it can see, and it adds its own question: who watches the watcher's configuration.

Who should care

  • IT and security leaders in Microsoft-centred organisations
  • Teams that cannot currently list which agents run under their name

What to do

Whatever platform you use, do the discovery step now: inventory the agents already running in your organisation, who owns each, and what each can touch. A written inventory makes any future control plane a configuration task instead of an archaeology project.

The human take

Tools change fast. Your judgment matters more.

A person owns the agent inventory and decides which agents are trusted; the platform can only enforce a decision somebody made.
